VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Anthony Rubinacci is running in the Republican Primary for Vigo County Commissioner in Dist. 2.
Rubinacci said he’s running because he feels Vigo County lacks a strategic plan for the next eight years.
He said he wants to work with the commissioners and Vigo County Council to develop that plan and believes that, as of now, the county is focused on broadening the tax base and meeting residents’ needs. To do that, Rubinacci said that as commissioner, he’d look toward the county’s assets in the local higher education institutions and high schools.
“Our high schools right now are kind of getting dilapidated,” Rubinacci said. “So, we need to work with the Vigo County School Corporation and figure out ways we can fund these in the future without taking more away from our tax base. If we focus on bringing jobs here, we can broaden our tax base, lower our income taxes and property taxes, but broaden our tax base as a whole, if we keep college students here. It’s one of the biggest assets we have.”
Rubinacci said he wants to continue living in Vigo County and thinks more recent college grads will want to do the same with more job opportunities and options for affordable housing, both of which are a priority for him.
